Hair Grabs Of The Moment

So a few weeks ago I decided I was in need for some serious hair inspiration. It seemed like my hair was looking lifeless, dull and lacking that "oomph" factor. Of course, the general remedy for this usually tends to be a good chop (which I'm way overdue for), but I decided to wring it out a little see what I could do if I put in a little more effort.

I've always been an everyday hair-washing gal but I realize that it's not the best for my hair. So even though the mere thought of having to endure a whole extra day of hair grease makes me shudder, I knew I had to muster up the  courage to transition to the "every other day" hair club. And with a few extra steps in my hair care routine, it wasn't the hardest thing to do. Also, since I wasn't washing my hair every day, I thought I could afford using heat tools like my 1 inch curler every once in a while….

Here are my products of the moment:

Shampoo: Kiehls Amino Acid Shampoo

Now, being a product junkie, I do like to go out and try different shampoo's from time to time but I always, ALWAYS come back to this. I mean, you can't beat it. Its Sulphate-free, delivers on its promise for a soft-to-the-touch mane and smells of coconut. Need I say more? If you're still not convinced, I highly recommend snagging a sample from your nearest Kiehls counter. You won't be disappointed.

Conditioner: L'oreal Ever Riche Conditioner

I'll be honest, I do skimp out on this step altogether most of the time (unless my locks are in need of major hydration). It just easier to push through that 'hair day off' when I haven't used a conditioner. However, when I do use a conditioner, I've been using the L'oreal Ever Riche Conditioner. Now, I wouldn't necessarily put this in the "rush out and grab category" but it does the job.

Serum: Moroccan Oil - Light Oil Treatment for Fine and Light Colored Hair

Ho-Ly-Grail. Love this stuff. Always have. It's just the perfect for fine, thin hair thats prone to damage and dryness (or even if you're looking for that extra hydration anyway). Easily absorbed, beautifully hydrates, smoothes without weighing your hair down but instead, dare I say, kind of provides that touch of volume. Just perfect. (For thicker-maned ladies, I recommend you try out the normal formulation as opposed to the "Light" version.)

Heat Protectant: TRESemme Platinum Strength Heat Protectant

In my quest to transform my hair from fine and limp to "Victoria Secret" worthy and effortlessly bouncy, I've been turning to my Conair 1.5 inch hair curler. Not going to lie, I do feel a wave of guilt every time I do since it's probably not the best thing for my hair, which is why I deemed the TRESemme Platinum Strength a necessary step in my hair styling routine, pre-styling. Hard to tell if heat protectants in general actually make a difference, but at least my guilt has kind of subsided.

Dry Shampoo: Dove Refresh + Care Dry Shampoo

So, remember how I mentioned that I'm trying out this "every other day" way of life? Well, obviously that wouldn't be possible had it not been for the invention of the ever-amazing dry shampoo phenomenon. And let me say, I've tried them all. From the Bumble and Bumble range to the drugstore versions such as TRESemme (attention: steer clear) and Batiste. Batiste was a favourite of mine up until I discovered the new Dove Refresh + Care Dry Shampoo last week and my-oh-my was I impressed. Smells like a field of strawberries (but not in a tacky way), feels instantly refreshing, and (get this) hardly any powdery white cast on the hair at all. Really amazing and definitely worth a try!

Dry Conditioner: Percy + Reed No Fuss Flawlessness Dry Conditioner

Yep. You read it right. Dry Conditioner. Why, might you ask, would anyone invent such a thing? Well, if you're a dry shampoo user you would know that dry shampoo's tend to make the hair look a little dull (see above point). I know the Dove version doesn't do that as much, but I still find that the Percy + Reed Dry Conditioner injects that perfect amount of shine and softness (without weighing your hair down). Into that second day hair look without the feel of second day hair? Dove and Percy (and Reed) got you covered.

Texturizer: Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

Having heard the hype around this product and seeing it on the "sample size" section next to the Space NK check out counter, I decided I just had to try it out. So glad I did, because a couple of sprays later, that extra oomph factor?…. well there it was. This gives the hair texture, an unbelievable amount of body without feeling gritty, sticky or product heavy. Needless to say, I will certainly be picking up a large size of this as soon as mine runs out!
